Playground Activity Leaders

2 years ago the partnership introduced PAL training for Year 5/6 students in primary schools and even Year 2 students in infant schools!  Training was initially delivered to students by SSCos in a format which suited individual schools.  Most had a 'PAL training day' onsite.  Schools chose students to receive the training, or students were able to apply. See a sample application form in the resources section.

By the end of the day students develop their communication, organisation and planning.  PALs are then able to help midday supervisors on the playground by organising and leading games for fellow students.  PALs often take it in turns helping on the playground on a rota and may have responsibility for different areas or 'zones' of the playground.

PALs in primary schools have proven to directly contribute to improved behaviour and attendance. Evidence from Bishop Tufnell Junior school over a one year period demonstrated a rise in physical activity from 58%-73%, a rise in the sense of safety from 54%-80%, and a decrease in behavioural issues from 54%-40%.

PALS may also be able to help younger students attempt our online challenges, such as speedstack.  Visit our challenge section for more information.
