Quick Sticks Hockey Tournament

On Wednesday the 14th March, The Regis School Sports Leaders officiated the School Games Quick Sticks tournament for both the Chichester, and Felpham and Bognor area primary schools. The Sports Leaders had ran festivals for all of the schools prior to the tournament which involved training sessions to provide the attendees with some knowledge of the game and improve their confidence in playing the sport. Overall, 13 schools attended with some even entering two teams. Those in attendance were: Edward Bryant Primary, Southway, Downview, Boxgrove, Bersted Green, West Dean CofE, West Wittering Parochial CofE, Seal, Rose Green Junior, Birdham CofE, North Mundham, Fishbourne CofE, and Bishop Tufnell CofE. The schools were placed into two pools, Pool A and Pool B. Within their pools, the schools had the opportunity to play all teams in a ‘round robin’ format, the top two teams from each pool then progressed to the semi-finals.

All teams played exceptionally well and were a credit to themselves and their schools. At times they displayed qualities of a world class sportsman, on one occasion a player showed the upmost respect to the rules when he was honest and said to the umpire that they used their foot rather than their stick to intercept a pass. It’s a shame that they couldn’t all progress onto the next stage based on their conduct alone.

The results were as follows: 3rd place was Downview primary, in 2nd place was Southway and in 1st place was West Dean. Huge congratulations to Downview and Southway and a special congratulations to West Dean who have now qualified to compete in the Sussex School Games Regional Finals, we wish them all the best for the next stage of the competition!
